Last week we were joined by first term Pittsfield Mayor Peter Marchetti. The mayor took office in January and is working hard on his priorities which include better communication amongst citizens and city government and better internal communication. His main priority is helping solve the homeless crisis, help for those suffering from addiction, mental health issues and public awareness of these matters. A task force has been established to work on the homeless / mental health and addiction concerns. The mayor is working on plans to curb the panhandlers seen on many street corners, signs will be going up soon asking people to donate to service organizations and not to the panhandlers. The mayor hopes to announce a tenant for the Stanley Business Park by years end. Work continues on revamping Pittsfield schools which may include some consolidation, a new elementary school and changing the format of elementary school assignments. The city may convert some old schools and other buildings to housing units. The mayor promises the landscaping of City properties will be much better this year! Finally, Mayor Marchetti is looking for volunteers to serve on city boards and commissions - contact the office of the Mayor if you'd like to serve the community in this way.
