While we are used to seeing Jim McGrath (pictured nearby) in his capacity as Pittsfield's Park, Open Space and Natural Resource Program Manager, last week he was representing Zion Lutheran Church, where he serves as President. Joining him was the church's new pastor Joel Bergeland (pictured nearby) 
The gentlemen shared details of the new housing project taking place at the church. With funding secured in large part through a grant from Pittsfield's share of ARPA funds, the new project features nine micro apartments for people in transition, which will be constructed on the upper floor of the church's education wing which is no longer used. Downstairs a homeless resource center will take shape. This facility will function as a liaison between the varied public services offered in and around downtown Pittsfield and the homeless community. Zion Lutheran Church is hoping Club members will act as a cheerleader for the project, offering public and private support for the endeavor. Further, Zion and First United Methodist Church which is currently building out an emergency shelter across the street are hoping to find synergies in the projects and importantly within the community these two facilities will serve.
