Fred Dery was unable to make the meeting, so we have no epic stories to pass on from last weeks meeting! Sorry folks. We did have a guest rotarian visit the club: Donna Collins from the Amesbury MA club. Jay Bailey gave a wrap-up of the food drive. He thanks John O’Brien, Carol, Sylvia and Nick for collecting and amazing 1,780 lbs of food and $176.00 on our last collection day. We also collected 2,579 lbs of food from the schools with thanks to Fred and his nephew, Jim and Erik for helping with the pickup. Overall, we collected 4,167 lbs of food and $3,674.00 cash. Thanks to Jay and Shaun for their hard work and all who volunteered. Speaking of volunteering, here are out members hard at work Feeding The Sheep! |

Recent Student Rotarian, attending Miss Hall's School, Sutra Chakma from Bangladesh joined us to explain an effort to help the victims of the Hawaiian wild fires that she is spearheading. 
Clearly confounding even Hawaii's best and bravest, we were regaled by the intriguing tale of a Gwen Davis visit to paradise. While we are unaware if there were cocktails flowing, a riptide or a pesky typhoon in the area, we do know that a simple swim in the Pacific turned from just that to a hockey row and finally to a cover of Sports Illustrated. As we understand the story, Gwen, replete with snorkel, swimming fins and sunglasses entered the tide, paddled about for a time and was eventually greeted by somewhat of a rouge wave. The wave arrived with such force that our swimmer was pushed towards a rock and upon collision with the immovable object one of her teeth took the brunt of the impact and dislodged itself. The collision drew the attention of not only 5-0 but the lifeguards on duty. While still being mostly in the water, Gwen assured the authorities that she was okay. She soon discovered that the show wasn't over just yet as it happened. You see, the impact of the wave grabbed the lanyard attached to her Ray-Bans, part of the lanyard was intwined with her bikini top and due to the force and pressure of the rushing water, following her tooth to Davey Jones's locker was the tattered remains of her bikini. Ignoring the gaze of the Kailua Middle School boy's surfing team (there for practice), Gwen confidently walked back to her hotel to regroup and try again. Impressive story Miss, impressive.
