Change a life - host a Rotary Youth Exchange Student

Our club is so lucky to have identified 2 Pittsfield High School students to study abroad next year with Rotary Youth Exchange.
We're putting the plan together for this month's 3rd Thursday to have the Grand Reveal, when we learn where Clare Meighan & David Bernal will go, representing our community and our club.
Especially with two outgoing students, it would be awesome for us to welcome an exchange student here.
Do you know someone that would be a great host?
Maybe your house is a little empty these days?
This is a great opportunity to welcome a student here and share our wonderful community with them.
Hosts report that it is such a fulfilling experience for the host family, too.
We're hoping to identify at least two (if not more) families to serve as hosts, so that at maximum it would be a commitment of half of the school year including someone new in your family.
What do you say? Can you volunteer or recommend someone?
Please share your ideas with me. Give me a call -- 413-441-8036 -- and let's figure out something great for a student!
Thank you for your consideration,
-Alex

Sculling and Crossbones Auction
Sculling and Crossbones Auction chair Robert Harrison provided an auction planning update at last week's meeting that highlighted the following important points:
  • The goal this year is to have items in by end of February. That's just 8 days away!!  Be sure to be asking and turning those items in!
  • Each member should have as a personal goal increasing the number of items they solicit. We need more stuff
  • Turn your forms in for updates to items changed or no longer available.
  • We can't send thank you notes to donors if there are no addresses in the database. Make sure your forms have donor contact information.
  • We want to increase the audience size, so do your best to invite friends, family and co-workers.
  • We are engaging a media compnay to assit in getting the word out.
Rotary's Epic Day of Service
Our Club initially planned to participate in the District's Epic Day of Service on May 17, however after careful consideration Club leaders decided we would fold our Day of Service into the District Conference that will be held in Pittsfield on May 3. Planners are organizing a food packing event for May 3. Make sure you note this service event, and the District conference, on your calendar.

Birthdays & Anniversaries

No birthdays or anniversaries to celebrate this week but our newly inducted member, Diana Knaebe celebrated her 22nd anniversary, having joined on Feb. 13 2003.  How great that her anniversary is the day she joined our club too!
Club Lottery
Last week, with 48 cards in the deck, the Sparks editor dropped the ball and paid no attention other than knowing that no one pulled the two of diamonds, so the pot is still up for grabs!
