Our district Governor sent the following message concerning the recent earthquake in Haiti:
Dear D7890 Rotarians,
We are deeply saddened to hear of the recent earthquake in Haiti and the damages it has caused. We are waiting to hear from Rotary International on the relief efforts RI is planning to set up, as in the past, in such situations. Once we get the information, we will share that with you immediately, for our Rotarians and their clubs to act on them.
The Rotary Organization is not in the first responder role in major disaster situations like this. Organizations like the Salvation Army, Red Cross, AmeriCares, etc. take the lead as the first responders along with the local Fire, Ambulance and Law enforcement Departments. FEMA will also be involved in these efforts. After the damages are assessed, Rotary becomes part of the rebuilding efforts.
We will be in touch with you soon with more information. In the meantime, let us hope for the best as far as the victims are concerned.
