Last week we heard via Zoom from Rick Lawrence, District 7890 chair of Water and Sanitation Projects and an annual visitor to our Club, to update us on the water projects in Guatemala that he coordinates. Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties, we were unable to view a short film, HOPE FOR WATER, that shows the living conditions and the process used to construct the water system funded by Rotary. The film was professionally prepared and emphasizes the development of the water system, the most important of the four components in each project. Those four components are
- Getting water into every household (using solar powered pumping stations as opposed to diesel pumps where possible);
- Installing grey water filters (grease traps);
- Pit latrines for each family;
- and safe stoves.
Members are encouraged to go to the following YouTube link to view the film: https://youtu.be/tNMdYKxcKDU
