Each year, the Rotary Club of Pittsfield recognizes two individuals, a man and a woman who are not Rotarians, and who have made significant contributions to our community through volunteer activities. Their activities have created lasting change in the lives of individuals and families, activities that have made this community a better place to live, work and raise a family. The nominees are not necessarily high profile individuals, but persons who have provided service above self to others. If you have a person you would like to nominate, or for additional information, please contact Kagan Award Committee Co-Chairs Ed Forfa or John Hudnall. The award description and nomination papers were emailed to members on May 5th from Joan DeMartino.
Last week we will had a Club Assembly to talk Strategic Planning. The Club worked through a WOTS up? (Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats, Strengths) exercise. Lead by Ed Forfa, John Hudnall and Ron Latham all members present gave input and valuable information was gathered. For those members who who were unable to attend, Rotary offers a Strategic Planning Guide, which is a pretty straight forward nine-page walkthrough of their version of "WOTS up?" We will have additional Club Assemblies in the future to continue the process.
Last week vice president Alex announced that the Christian Center was accepting donations on behalf of the twelve families displaced by the recent fire on Lincoln Street in Pittsfield. Members are encouraged to make their donations of household goods, clothes and cash to the Center.
An important Club initiative going forward is membership enhancement. To that end, the Club is still entertaining the membership challenge proposed last year where any Club member that brings a prospective member to a luncheon meeting will have that guest's meal paid for by Eric Schaffer, and when/if that guest attends a second meeting, the meal will be covered by the Club. Can you think of someone to bring to Rotary?
After Carol's big win, the lottery has been reset. The massive pot of $23 went unclaimed last week, as we hope to see the pot swell once again. Treasurer Jeff Hassett selected the King of Hearts as the match we are looking for in this lottery round. Several Rotarians wondered aloud if Tom Sherman will be seen in the near future with the pot at such pedestrian levels. 51cards remain in the deck.
