Kiwanis Park of Honor

Our club made a $500 donation to the Kiwanis Park of Honor to support the project.
The flags are up and look wonderful on Park Square.
The funds raised support scholarships that Kiwanis distributes to students (priority to children
and grandchildren of veterans through a Good Citizenship Award of $500. Generally, when a
student completes the first semester of their continued education, the Kiwanis Club sends them
the $500, which can be used at the student's discretion. We have supported this effort for years,
and it's a great example of our shared efforts supporting the community. This year, we were
reminded to work together through the Rotary International effort to Celebrate Community.

City of Pittsfield: Drop Off and pick up options for old trash and recycling containers:

Home More Press Releases City of Pittsfield: Drop Off and pick up options for old trash and recycling containers

Posted October 17, 2024

PITTSFIELD, Mass. (October 17, 2024) – As the new trash and recycling system is well underway, the City of Pittsfield announces two options for residents to dispose of old trash and recycling containers that are no longer need.

On Saturday, November 9, Casella Waste Systems will host a drop-off at the Pittsfield Transfer Station, located at 500 Hubbard Avenue, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Pittsfield residents can drop off their old trash and recycle containers during this window.

In addition, during the week of November 11 through November 15, old trash and recycling containers will be picked up curbside, on the same day as residents’ scheduled collection. Casella will pick up any old trash and recycling containers, left at the curbside, by a separate truck and not by the trash or recycling truck.

For residents who have backyard pickups, unless you indicate that you are keeping the old container with a note, Casella will pick up your old container(s) the week of November 11.

Before disposing of your old container, the city encourages residents to consider using the old containers for the following options:
• Repurpose, sell or donate them.
• Use them for storage for yard waste, equipment and other materials.
• Use them as a compost bin.

As a reminder, additional resources for the new trash and collection system, including a list of frequently asked questions, can be found on the Toter Program page on the city’s website at www.cityofpittsfield.org.
Notes & Asides
Many thanks to Henry J. Bailly, II, in his member minute we got a quick update on how things are going in his world. Don't mistake his name as he goes by the name of Jay Bailly. He is a native of Housatonic, MA who has lived, worked, continued his education, and helped to raise his family here in Berkshire County. He has been with the club for 18 years and has been on the Club's Board of Directors a couple of times while also being involved with the annual food drive for the past 17 years. This year he celebrated his 26th anniversary at Berkshire Bank, where he works as a Business Banking Relationship Manager and a Senior Banking Officer. In the month of October, he celebrated his 8th anniversary with his life-long partner, Emily Calabrese. He has 2 grown children, Henry and Sarah, and Emily has 2 grown children, Peter and Cristina. Together, they share 8 grandchildren between the 2 of them. The oldest grandchild is 11 and the youngest will turn 2 in the upcoming week. When he and Emily aren't managing and maintaining their 2 homes and investment properties, they enjoy visiting Emily's 97 year old mother and their grandchildren, who are the apples in their eyes!

Club Directory Cleanup: Alex has emailed everyone regarding to either update/verify member information. If you have not responded back to Alex yet, please let him know of any changes.
