Last week we heard from Kate Light, Asst. Director, and Denise Johns, Business Manager, of the Berkshire Innovation Center (BIC), a catalyst to spark innovation and sustainable growth of technology-focused companies in Berkshire County. They do this through programs that promote learning and enrich people in technology-led career paths and by providing research and innovation space for people and companies to explore new technologies, all while convening and connecting a community of like-minded entities, like MIT, General Dynamics, and the Mass Tech Collaborative, and with funding from the US Department of Commerce they aim to close the gap between local supply chain capabilities and the needs of larger manufacturers through ongoing education, training, and technology assistance. Member companies have access to BIC's facility and to the advanced R&D equipment, training programs, laboratories, conference rooms, offices, and accelerator spaces. Usage fees are substantially discounted below market rices. In closing, Kate suggested the Club consider having BIC host a future meeting so Club members might be given a tour of the facility. |
