The Magic Show Spectacular held during our weekly Rotary Meeting last week by our very own Rotarian and Magician Extraordinaire, Eric Schaffer was nothing short of Spectacular! Eric is no newbie to the world of magic! His father took him to his 1st magic shop when he was around 8 years old. During his teenager years, he performed children's magic shows. When he had is A/C Co, he did shows at company parties. After a little break from performing, he came back, refreshed his skills, and placed an amazing 2nd magic show for all his fellow Rotarians during our weekly luncheon meeting at Mazzeo's.
With his handy "Box of Tricks", Eric bedazzled all of his fellow Rotarians with magic tricks, including card tricks, disappearing/reappearing acts, pulling all sorts of items out of various objects, the dice & dagger trick, and no one can forget how Eric magically made a check appear for the Food Drive - right on time! In the Spirit of Halloween, Eric had our wonderful student guests assist him in magically creating sweets for everyone to share!
Our beloved Alex has set out on his journey and gave us another quick update:
"Today was a long one — First day of classes for the students & first day of work for student assistants. I had 7 assistants each working 2 hour shifts from 8am until 10pm, so I’ve had a day of constant training. The students are great, and we worked hard today, so the rest of the work will be a lot easier. I really appreciate you following up with Tawny about the Dictionary Program. We’re currently in the ocean on our way to Malaga, Spain. Our original plan was to go to Morocco, but the earthquake literally has us changing course. We are just so lucky that we weren’t there for all of the destruction. Many of our plans were in places that were devastated. We are counting our blessings.
General Dynamics has generously agreed to match $2,000 of the $2,000 amount approved by the Benevolence Committee Board of our Rotary Club for a total of $4,000 for the Food Drive!
Shaun Heimann has booked Walmart for 10/28, 11/04 and 11/18 for collections with a kickoff on 10/26!
One birthday to celebrate this week: Ken Sewall 1/11; and two Club anniversaries: John McLaughlin, 26 years a/o 1/8/1998, and Kelly Marion, 22 years a/o 1/10/2002.
