Col. Latham's Army Snapshot
At our last meeting we heard from Col. Adam Latham, who provided a general status overview of the Army, touching on ISIS, counter-insurgency, Iranian, Chinese and European challenges, before opening up to a wide range of member questions. Col. Latham is the son of Ron Latham, is a 1997 graduate of PHS, and is no stranger to Rotary.
April 3rd Thursday - No Meeting
This week is 3rd Thursday, but because it's also school vacation week (and president John has abandoned Pittsfield for warmer climes), there will be no luncheon meeting or organized evening social. At our last meeting, president John noted that the Mayor has organized an award ceremony at Hot Plate Brewery on School Street from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, honoring Hot Plate Brewing Company and Interprint, who have respectively have been named silver and bronze winners of the 2023 MassEcon Economic Impact Awards. The Economic Impact Awards celebrate companies throughout the Commonwealth for their contributions to the state’s economy. Each awardee must meet three criteria including locating a new operation in Massachusetts or expanding operations resulting in added jobs and facility investment, social impact with community involvement/philanthropic efforts and internal/ external equity, diversity and inclusion practices. The event offers members an opportunity to socialize, and perhaps recruit new members.
Spring Fling Cash Lotto
At our last meeting, Adrienne deBlieux-Speed reported that the SpringFling Cash Calendars raised $7,597 for the Club's Environmental Committee. Congratulations to Adrienne for this successful fund raiser.
Auction Results
The 2024 Rowdy Rodeo auction was a smashing success! at our last meeting auction chair Robert Harrison reported the Club had solicited items valued at $59,000, which generated $37,470 in sales - 64% of value. Additionally, the Club collected $26,700 in advertising and donations; and the fund-raiser withing the auction raised $13,625 for Habitat for Humanity. Robert thanked the membership for their support of this outstanding event.
2024 Rotary Day of Service 5/18
The annual Rotary Day of Service is coming up on Saturday, May 18. As a follow-up to our fund raising for Habitat for Humanity at our auction, the Club has made plans to do something for Habitat for Humanity in Dalton as our project. More details to follow, but put this date on your calendar.
PHS Rotary Interact Club Walk-A-Thon
The PHS Rotary Interact Club will be holding a walk-a-thon, "Voices Against Violence," an awareness walk for sexual assault and domestic violence from 10:00 to 11:30 on Tuesday, April 30. The Club board of directors voted to allocate $500 to the cause, and any fines collected at our meeting on April 26, will go to the cause. All funds raised for this event will go to the Elizabeth Freeman Center. For additional information, contact Erik Ungewitter.
