The Butler award, named in honor of the late Don Butler was established in 1983 to honor a very special Pittsfield Rotarian. This award is presented annually as near as possible to March 27, which was Don's birthday. The recipient is the Rotarian who best represents those ideals of service to Rotary and the community, which were exemplified by Don in his lifetime. President Murphy announced this years awardee Joan Di Martino. Joan, as always exemplifies service to others. Joan recently celebrated her 48th year working at General Dynamics and serves on the board at the Brigham Center among many other community and family involvements. Highlights of her Rotary Club of Pittsfield service include: Board member, Club past president, Foundation board member and past president, student guest coordinator, various committee memberships, event lead, weekly luncheon coordinator, Club secretary, and as always helping serve lunch at every meeting. Deservingly so, this was the third time Joan has won the Butler award. Joining us to celebrate Joan were Don Butler's daughter Jean, Joan's husband Tony, her sister Dawn and mother Josie. |
