It was indeed a very quiet week in Lake Wobegon (many thanks to the great Garrison Keillor) - it seemed many Rotarians had beaches to see, places to be, things that this past week weren't Rotary. So the small assembled group had a lovely luncheon and learned a little bit of gossip along the way, see Notes & Asides nearby. For the first time in recent memory, we found ourselves in the parking lot well before 1:00 as the meeting concluded around 12:50.  As summer gives up it's last gasp, we're sure to see attendance back to usual level.

Due to the aforementioned light attendance last week, and the fact that each and every Rotarian on the naughty list was dutifully absent at the meeting, the R & D Team at Sparks Tower trotted out an idea they have been working on, namely self service fines. The concept worked surprisingly well as there a few guilt ridden dollars contributed to the coffers but there was lots of happiness in the room that produced a decent cash haul just the same. Of note, Alex Reczkowski contributed the one sad dollar garnered last week, and it appears to be Fred Dery's fault! We will get back to the impeccably delivered penance by The Ministry of Finance this week however we have proven that just like the grocery store checkout, we can make self service work in a pinch!

Hocus Pocus: In his member minute, Eric Schaffer shared a quick review of his life's travels from his Newark background, moving to Sin City while stationed at Nelis AFB (Area 51 - this could explain a few things) to his property investments and eventual sale of same to Milltown Capital - and his love for magic. Thanks Eric for being the official magician of the Rotary Club of Pittsfield!

 

She said yes!: Fred Dery announced that the lovely Brooke said yes after he popped the big question! Congrats indeed to all three of you! Condolences to Alex on the news.
